I was honored to be asked to create an image for the annual fund raising gala held by No Limits for Deaf Children and Families to be held on October 15. This image, called “The Graduate,” is created by thumbnail-sized headshots of all the 2022 graduates of this incredible organization. Graduates you might ask? Indeed! Here is the story
No Limits was founded in 1996 to fill a much needed gap in education and services for underserved families of deaf and hard of hearing children who choose to listen and communicate with hearing aids or cochlear implants. Through a nationally acclaimed theater group and after school programming, No Limits has been instrumental in helping these children refine their speaking and oral communication and gain the confidence to excel at life. Not to be confused with ASL, these kids are progressing in mainstream education with the goal of a college education and beyond. In fact, 100% of the kids that have gone through No Limits’ programming through high school have been accepted to college! 100%!
Several times a year, No Limits holds a “graduation” ceremony where the kids that have completed the program give a small speech about what they want to do with their lives. It is an emotional day for the families who start to see their youngsters speaking with confidence and enthusiasm, something many of them never thought they would see or hear. The emotions of the graduation ceremony forms the impetus for my image.
I have printed this image on a 33×40” sheet of metal. It is ready to hang and looks awesome! If you would like a chance to bid on “The Graduate” and support this wonderful organization, you can do so here: The Graduate.
