What do you notice about these first two shots besides a young lady ripping up the waves? Her surfboard of course. And more importantly, what stands out on her surfboard? Sponsor stickers of course. Her nose sticker is O’Neill and holds the place of honor. It’s the spot that is most often visible in pictures. On the bottom of her board, we see she is also sponsored by Nixon and her board is shaped by Al Merick.

A part of being sponsored is to provide your sponsors with great images for their marketing. The number one request we photogs get from sponsors is: “make sure our sticker is visible.” That is often easier said than done and it is important to know the exact moments where a surfer is making a critical move and one that shows off their sponsor’s sticker.

It takes practice and patience to get it just right, but when you do, both your surfer and their sponsor will be stoked to have material for social media as well as print marketing!
